The Time Traveling Fashionista by Bianca Turetsky

February 25, 2011

Louise, a normal seventh grade girl, loves vintage fashion.  On a normal Thursday, a letter arrived inviting Louise to a traveling vintage fashion sale.  When she arrived she was greeted by two interesting woman, who helped her find the perfect dress for her dance.  Shortly after Louise bought the dress she was whisked back to the Titanic, where she met her alter ego, Alice, a silent movie-film star.  While aboard the Titanic and interacting with Alice, Louise enjoys all of the vintage clothes in Alice’s closet and adapts to the life of glamour, luxury, and fame.  However, disaster is looming, as Louise has learned in History class.  Was Louise’s dream dress more costly than she first thought?  She has to decide whether to change history and save everyone onboard the ship, or to become one of the Titanic’s many victims.

The Time Traveling Fashionista by Bianca Turetsky was an amazing page turner.  This book is a great read for anyone, but especially if you like adventure, fashion, and/or history.  This book made me feel like I was next to Louise and Alice while they were on the Titanic.  Sometimes the plot and dialogue slowed down making me lose interest, but most of the time it was entertaining.  The sketches of the outfits were beautiful and I can’t wait to see them in full color.  I recommend this book to anyone who has an interest in fashion or just wants an adventure.
